A few weeks ago a coworker of my wife was killed in a tragic car accident. A week before her death, she left a note for her husband, which he shared at her funeral. Then my wife brought it home to share with me and our family. As I read it, I thought it so appropriate for this website and to share with you as well. I hope there is something in this writing for you. The research for the author of this writing points to Charles R. Swindoll, although this seems to be an interpretation. But, here is the note the wife left just a week before her tragic accident:
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact that attitude has on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than education, than money, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.
It will make or break a company…a church…a home. It will lead to happiness and success, or sadness and despair. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for the day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude!
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our ATTITUDES! A positive attitude is contagious. So is a negative one. One leads to success, the other leads to failure, not only in our careers, but also in our relationships. Which one will you pick? For those who have trouble deciding, a mediocre attitude leads to mediocrity. Although it is easy to be mediocre, it takes work to choose a negative attitude and complain about everything. It takes even more work to choose a positive attitude and find ways to overcome the obstacles in your lives. Look around, people with positive attitudes are those who are creative, constructive, and productive in their personal and professional lives.
Every day, from the time you get up, to the time you go to bed, the one thing you CAN control throughout the day is your ATTITUDE!
So choose wisely!
