Some good news on the recovery progress of Josie Lou Ratley, the Deerfield Beach, Florida 15-year-old girl I wrote about last month who was beaten severely by classmate Wayne Treacy over a text message about a relationship.
Josie’s mother was on the Today Show this morning mentioned that Josie began moving her eyes and is off all but the pain medication. While she is still in a medically induced coma, she did start breathing on her own on Tuesday.
Josie was allegedly beaten and kicked with a steel-toed boot by Treacy so severely, she was unrecognizable at first. Doctors are now withdrawing the coma-inducing drugs in the hopes that Ratley will be off all of them soon. They still do not know if she is brain-damaged and only time will tell as she wakes from her coma.
While the lawyers for Treacy say he is “devastated” and “remorseful” over the attack, Josie’s mother said on the Today Show she still has not received any form of apology or act of concern from Wayne Treacy or his parents.
Prosecutors will decide by April 19th on whether to charge Treacy as an adult or a juvenile for his actions.
